I wouldn’t call Destiny “essentially an MMO” due to a huge number of factors, but they are definitely making an experience more like what PC gamers are used too with MMOs. You need to understand these kind of games before you can truly understand why matchmaking doesn’t work. MMO-like content isn’t something you can just do with random players as it’s not built for randoms being paired together. The vast majority of the content in this game is built for people who have a good line of communication with each other, matchmaking groups rarely basically never have that. You get matched into your game, you play with your team or solo, you do your best to play your role but you rarely hear detailed communications between people. The way they are setting up Destiny puts players in situations where instead of forcing players to play together, they simply allow players to interact with each other in any way they want.

I agree with you, and you make some valid points, but not having Raid or Weekly Strike, hell, even Daily Story mission matchmaking is an inexcusable fault. Not having a playlist for something as simple as this is sheer laziness. And while I agree that there will be trolls in the playlists, this can be remedied. FORCE people to be in game-chat for this.
It must be optional, you might have people to do it with but why forbid it for those who want to do raid with randoms, there are websites to help with this but lacking an option for matchmaking is amateur.

Destiny, however, will be scaling things down quite a bit. No new raid though. This might make some people angry. Because I hardly ever play raids. Online multiplayer and matchmaking algorithms have been a staple of multiplayer gaming ever since Blizzard invented Battle. Missions that are nearly impossible to complete alone. Missions that, by definition, require a team to defeat.
Oh… and good luck getting past level 28ish without playing any of those.

What makes a hardcore player? There are many different kinds of players who spend a lot of time playing Destiny, so the qualification to be a hardcore Destiny player is a bit open to interpretation.
The new raid will start in a very similar way as Destiny‘s first raid, Vault of Glass. Fans generally enjoyed the public space start to Vault of Glass, which meant random players could wander.
This small-scale raid takes Guardians once more onto Leviathan, the giant planet-eating ship of Emperor Calus. This will be the most mechanically-heavy activity a lot of Destiny 2 players would have ever experienced, demanding the full-attention of all members of the party. More than the mechanics, it requires an exceptionally high Power level for the first two encounters and a whopping for the final fight — so spend some time leveling!
There are only solar shields in this Raid Lair, so take advantage of that fact by only using solar energy and power weapons. If you haven’t already, take the time to unlock Whisper of the Worm , as it will make the final boss fight a breeze. The goal of this encounter is simple: Two pillars are located on the left and right of the arena, and when stood on by a player, gives a debuff called Engulfed. I feel like any time there’s something players figure out or do in the game, that was originally unintended by Bungie, they patch it to their liking. And then, if there’s something players really want, they simply ignore it. Aug 24, · Matchmaking has existed in “Destiny” since day 1. Why not take your head out of the sand and play some Vanguard Strikes. You can even restrict yourself to low level ones so that you will feel like you are really good because all the enemies will be accomodating and die for you.
You won’t get to fail repeatedly because at least two people from your random group will rage quit after the first wipe and then you’ll get to go replace them. I’m fairly certain that the notion of random raid groups multiplied by the toxicity of the console shooter community is the actual definition of Hell, and I will gladly stick to the rest of the game should I ever be unable to put together a pre-made group.
Well there’s no built in chat system, so that would temper the toxicity quite a bit. I don’t recall anything that resembled a “toxic” experience throughout the entirety of the alpha or beta. Hopefully that will stay true for the full game. Although to be fair, the most toxic MMO players are almost always end-game. I suppose it could depend on how much other end-game content there is.
If there’s other stuff to do it might be fine, but if raiding is where all the meaningful stuff happens then not getting a group together could be real frustrating. If they’ve designed their raids properly I can’t envision a way to succeed in them without voice interaction, which I’ll suggest has the potential to be a little bit worse than reading text. Let’s be honest, you have posts and counting on a popular video game forum. You should probably be able to find a group for such a popular game without having to risk being thrown into a random group with x Cronic x by a matchmaking system.
